Download A Free Article From Lightroom Magazine – Color Workflow From Lightroom to Photoshop

We’ve been getting fantastic reviews of the latest issue of Lightroom Magazine. If you own an iPad and are still on the fence about downloading the magazine, I thought I’d share one of my favorite articles from this issue with you. See, we always get a ton of questions about color management between Photoshop and Lightroom. Last year, I met Joe Brady who’s a total wizard when it comes to this stuff. So we asked him if he’d write an article to help make sense of it all and he did just that. Here’s a link to download a PDF of the article if you want to check it out (it’s free).

And if you like it enough, here’s the link to the Apple App Store to download the Lightroom Magazine app. Enjoy and have a good one!

    Matt,
Thanks for sharing. My question, would I still use this workflow if my client wants their images in srgb mode? Or, would I use this mode when I’m making a print?

    Hi Matt,

I tried downloading the PDF and it kept showing Failed download. I don’t have problems reading other PDF files so wondered if there is a glitch in the link.

Also, are we able to download the new Lightroom mag onto our PC computers? I don’t have an iPad …. so does that mean we who don’t have Mac can’t have it?? =0(
I would love to see this mag as I am a huge Lightroom4 fan!!

    Thank you,
    Joy

Thanks (as always) for sharing. This made me remember a question I’ve been wanting to ask for a while: When choosing in LR 4 to edit a photo in Photoshop CS5, I get a pop-up that says the following:
“This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 7.3 for full compatability. Please update the Camera Rwa plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu.” Options are to click either “Cancel”, “Render using Lightroom” or “Open Anyway”.
What is the difference between “Render using Lightroom” and “Open anyway” – and which one do you recommend?
Since I am only using CS5 and not CS6, upgrading Camera Raw is obviously not possible for me.

Regards – and thanks for a great blog!

“render using lightroom” will create a TIFF/PSD file with all the lightroom 4 adjustments. At this point, even if you decide not to adjust anything and close out the file without saying, there is still a TIFF/PSD file in LR.
If you are using CS6 with LR4, the tiff/psd file will not be created until you save in Photoshop.
“Open Anyway”, Photoshop CS5 will try to generate your raw as close as LR4 adjustment as possible.
Since your LR version is newer and better than ACR in Photoshop CS5, I would go with “render using lightroom” option.
