Lightroom Tip – Facebook and Flickr Commenting
First off, don’t forget that Kelby Training is having a huge sale on DVDs. I’ve done a bunch of titles over there and you can pick up some pretty good deals right now. There’s a some there for $9.99, and a lot of them (like my Mastering Color for Photoshop CS4) are still perfectly applicable for CS5. Look at it this way, you’re bound to get at least one out of a DVD to make it worth $9.99 (but you’ll probably get more). OK, on to the tip:
You probably know by now that Lightroom 3 has Facebook and Flickr integration in it. Just go to the Library module, on the left side, and scroll down to the Publish Services panel. You can post photos to a Facebook or Flickr account right from within Lightroom. But I always find that a lot of people miss a really cool feature that goes along with this. Comments. Yup, you can read/add comments that go along with the photos you post in Lightroom too. It’s the bottom-most panel on the right side in the Library module and it’s called the Comments panel (go figure 🙂 ). Anyway, if you post to Facebook and Flickr you know you can’t resist comments. I’m not the only one that goes in and hits refresh every 5 minutes right? Anyway, now you can refresh and see/add comments without ever even leaving Lightroom. How’s that for convenience? Have a great weekend everyone!

Very difficult to get the lightroom to flickr to work. Actually, it only worked once. Been trying alllll d. day to figure it out.
Says that the task being performed,
downloading comments gets completed,
but the images never show up on the site.
very frustrated, working on a deadline.
That’s a great tip and will help in overall workflow.

I like this feature, but it seems most people leave comments on a whole album, not on a single picture and when they do this you do not get notified of a new comment in LR.
I was also having problems publishing anything until I updated to LR 3.4.
I used to use this feature all the time but there is one HUGE problem on using the Facebook export. I can’t export to a Fanpage on Facebook. Yeah if i want all my photos to go to my personal page it works great but my photography goes to my Fanpage (as I only use my personal page for only personal photos of me, go figure huh).
I tried to do some research on it but couldn’t find anything on it. You got any suggestions for it? I know once it’s in your personal page, you can’t move it to a Fanpage.
I works more or less ok (some pics stay in republish for ever here. Not to much you can do about that (no flexibility). And it would also be nice if you could turn downloading comments off. Just to prevent a very cluttered database that already isn’t that fast.
Huge fan of Lightroom and this site, so maybe somebody can answer my question or shed some light…
Lightroom supports video; Flickr supports video; Lightroom publishes to Flickr… How come Lightroom can’t publish video to Flickr? It can’t right? Anyone got any tips? Thanks…
If I recall correctly, if someone has commented on one of your photos and then you want to update the photo for some reason, Facebook will delete all the associated comments (with a warning first). I thought that was kind of annoying.
Thanks for the tip! I’ve been using the flickr and smugmug uploaders in LR for a bit, but completely missed this one very cool feature! I guess I never noticed it because it’s at the bottom hidden by the metadata panel. Great tip!
Just in case you are refreshing this page, I thought I would leave a comment! Great tip.
The Facebook integration worked for me one time- the first time I used it. Since then it has never worked again. I just get an error message that says, “Could not create Facebook Album” I have checked and double checked all login information and I have gone over and over the process as I have seen posted on several web sites and forums. I finally gave up. Have you been hearing this a lot? Do you have any tips or possible solutions!
Doesn’t work for me anymore. Same as you 🙁
Is that integration the same as export in Bridge? That is to say only available in the US, or is it actually available in the international edition.
It’s so massively irritating when something is mentioned on one of the kelbytv channels, and just isn’t there for one.
