This Week on The Grid: Episode 700 Celebrates Photographing People
This week marked a major milestone as The Grid celebrated its 700th episode, and Scott Kelby brought together an outstanding panel of photographers to talk about one of photography’s most rewarding subjects: people.
Joining Scott were Dixie Dixon, Joe Edelman, and Ibarionex Perello, each sharing techniques and insights they’ve developed through years of photographing everyone from clients and models to complete strangers.
For Lightroom users, one of the biggest takeaways wasn’t tied to sliders or presets—it was the reminder that strong portraits begin long before you open Lightroom. Better light, stronger direction, authentic expressions, and genuine human connection all make post-processing easier and your final images more impactful. The panel covered everything from Dixie’s beautifully simple “garage light” portrait technique and Joe’s creative lighting and posing ideas to Ibarionex’s thoughtful approach to street photography and building confidence when approaching people.
Scott also introduced AURÉ, KelbyOne’s brand-new magazine featuring the work of photographers in the Master of Photography program.
If photographing people is something you’d like to improve, this milestone episode is filled with practical advice that starts in-camera and carries all the way through your editing workflow. The episode also serves as an excellent preview of the upcoming Photographing People Conference, taking place online next week, July 20–22, where all three guests will be sharing even more of their expertise.
