Big Lightroom News! Adobe Launches Lightroom 5 Beta!

Well, it doesn’t get much bigger than this in the Lightroom world. Adobe just announced the Lightroom 5 Beta and it’s available to download right now. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at some of the new features, one of the main ones being a real cloning and healing tool.

Over at the National Association of Photoshop Professionals HQ, Scott Kelby and I put together an entire launch site for you to check out. It’s got videos on all of the new features, links, resources, tips, tricks and links to download the beta version. Here’s the site, so head on over to be the first to check out the new beta.

Isn’t there a bug with the Metadata when exporting jpgs (or other formats) from Lightroom 5 ?
I usually upload my photos to Deviantart which reads the metadatas from the jpg file (camera brand and model, editing software etc) and since I’m using Lightroom 5 beta these information don’t show up correctly on deviantart anymore

What is Adobe’s practise on upgrade entitlement when buying soon before the release of new versions?
I’m considering buyinng Lr4 (first time user) but if Lr5 will be along shortly maybe I’ll wait a bit.

They usually honor any purchases made within 30 days of the new version coming out.
How about just using the Lightroom 5 Beta for free and then purchase the full version of it when it finally ships?

I thought the new Slideshow feature in Lightroom 5 looked promising. Two questions: (1) can you incorporate a Ken Burns effect on the stills? (2) can you output the slide show as, say, a complete h264 video?
