Please do a show (or a KelbyOne class) on the Publish Services panel. I have a Facebook page for my photography business that I like to post to from Lightroom, but find that I have to log onto the page, create a new album using a dummy photo, then go back into Lightroom and try to find it. There must be an easier way! Thanks.
Another great show. The tips and tricks are great. Scott, I’m a big adjustment brush user and I never even thought about the drop down box with those presets. I shot some of my grandkids last night and used the presets,
Hi,
loved to see the noise reduction in LR explained a bit more – thanks for that.
Yet your strategy of dealing with the loss of detail in the bird left me wondering if you wouldn’t be better off by applying the noise reduction selectively and if that would be possible in LR alone – because that would mirror my current strategy of dealing with background noise (OK, it’s involving PS) better.
The way I currently deal with noise in the background is that I do two LR conversions, one with aggressive noise reduction and one with very toned down noise reduction (if any at all) – and in PS I load both into layers and then put the layer with the toned down noise reduction on top of the other, add a layer mask and then I “paint in” my foreground subject with little noise reduction over the background with it’s strong noise reduction. I don’t even have to be very precise when creating the layer mask because except for the noise reduction both conversions do match…
Along with the development module comma and period keys to move up and down through basic panel… shift +/- will make bigger or small changes in values. (Unfortunately none of these flips exposure into 1/3 stop increments…)
Hi Scott
would love to use LR mobile but my workflow on a D800 is RAW on CF card & small JPEG in SD which I transfer with Eyefi to my IPAD for quick checking . I would love to do keywords or basic edits ….if only LR mobile /LR PC would have a sync function of transfer edits of JPEGS back to RAW after importing boths formats in LR PC … without this .. any JPEG edit is lost time as I need to start from scratch on the RAW when back home. Any idea or suggestion ?
Greetings from a viewer in Paris , great show !

Another great show. The tips and tricks are great. Scott, I’m a big adjustment brush user and I never even thought about the drop down box with those presets. I shot some of my grandkids last night and used the presets, what a time saver. Thanks, you guys rock!
Thanks Guys; Loving the show especially the LR mobile tips.
Another PC/LR ‘Quick-n-Dirty’ noise reduction/sharpen workflow tip.
Try this (should take less than 10 seconds)…
1. Open the DNG file in the DEVELOP module.
2. Open the DETAIL dialog box and go to the Noise Reduction set of sliders.
3. Press the “Alt” key on your PC to turn the image to B&W, then with your mouse pointer, push the Luminance slider to the place on the scale to where the noise speckles look like they are starting to fade, then adjust to suit your fancy (some like to leave a few speckles to keep the image from looking plastic…). Be patient as it may take a moment for the effect to become apparent. Release the ALT key…
4. Press the Alt key, again, and adjust the COLOR slider to remove the color speckles. Be patient as it may take a moment or two for the color speckles to dissolve. Release the ALT key…
5. Shift your attention to the SHARPENING set of sliders (above the NR set in the DETAIL dialog box).
6. In your mind, subtract the previous Luminance adjustment number from 100 and enter that calculation into the AMOUNT slider’s adjustment result box. For example, if your Luminance number was 30, enter 70. Notice that the luminance noise you erased earlier has returned. UGH ! Get rid of it by…
7. Press the Alt key on your PC, again, and adjust the MASKING slider to the point that your image appears to be a B&W line drawing.
8. Release the Alt key…
BINGO !
Cheers… M
Love your show. I bookmarked everyone so far. I have a question….I know there is an avenue to go from LR to PS (Elements) and back to LR. I cant seem to remember this trick. Will you please cover this again?
In general:
LR: right-click, Edit In Photoshop (Elements) to send the image to PS(E).
PS(E): File / Save to get the edited copy back into LR.
Scott & RC
Love this show. It is quickly becoming the most useful 15 minutes of the week. Now the question:
I use the HSL panel a lot, particularly to darken skies and increase saturation in vegetation. However, I often see an edge artifact when making an extreme correction. For example a bright edge between a building and sky. I know I can eliminate this by using less saturation or luminance but sometimes too much is just right. Do you have any hints for softening the effect along an edge?
Thanks guys.
Try this, create a virtual copy and make the extreme (but just right) adjustment on the VC while leaving that adjustment out of the original (or you could adjust the original and leave the VC without the adjustment), then select both versions and go to Photo > Edit In > Open as layers in Photoshop. You’ll get both versions on 2 different layers in Photoshop. Use Photoshop’s tools to blend the edges of the adjustment as needed (layer masks, selections, etc.).
