Lightroom Tip Tuesday: The Easy Way To Make Relative Edits
What’s a “relative edit?” Well, watch this quick video, and it will make sense (and you’ll wind up using this technique anytime this situation arises).
Pretty handy, right? This probably isn’t one you’ll use every day, but when you need it, it’s sure nice to have it. 🙂
Thanks to everybody who attended my sessions yesterday at Fotoclave out in San Ramon, California. They were super nice people, and I had a really wonderful time. Thanks to Same at SlickPic and all the Fotoclave folks for their gracious hospitality. 🙂
Have a great Lightroom Tip Tuesday, everybody! 🙂

P.S. Tomorrow on “The Grid,” we’ve got John Dukes as our in-studio guest, so all bets are off. LOL!
Here is a bonus Quick Develop tip! Sometimes increasing or decreasing the Exposure by 1/3 stop is too much. Shift-Click on the 1/3 buttons to get an increment half that value (1/6th adjustment). This is very nice when just a subtle adjustment is needed.
Scott, excellent tip! I tried to set the black point this way, by selecting the desired photos and double-clicking the word “Blacks”. In the Develop module this will automatically set the black point. When done in Grid mode in Quick Develop, LR told me it updated the blacks for the correct number of images but when I go into Develop, there is no change and no record in the history that this was done. Any idea why this indicates it is doing something when it does not?
Nice to see a good use of those controls. I usually just skip over them and go right to develop module.
Did you intend to keep the “false start” of the tip in the video? I did like to see a sort of behind the scenes in how you make these whether or not that was intentional.
Hi, Greg. Nope – I totally whiffed on that. LOL!! That’s what I get for uploading videos between red-eye flights out West. LOL!! I went and fixed it – thanks for the heads up. 🙂
