Adobe releases free bug-fix update to Lightroom CC/6

lrccupdate

Hi gang – a couple days ago Adobe released a free bug/fix update to Lightroom CC (and LR6) and it mostly addresses a problem some users are experiencing when launching Lightroom. Anyway, it’s a free update: just go under Lightroom’s Help menu and choose Updates and the Adobe Application Manager window will appear where you can download the update.

So far, my copy of Lightroom (which is just like your copy of Lightroom), has been running great with no problems, but like with any update, there are some folks that, for some reason, are having some issues (crashing, sluggish performance, etc.). This happens to some folks with every single release since version 1.0, and I wish I had an easy fix for those few folks (it must be incredibly frustrating), but luckily Adobe is pretty darn good about releasing updates that address bugs and hopefully this update will squash a few, but I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last bug fix update.

Hope you all have a great Tuesday.

Best,

-Scott

Lightroom update = big problems for me. Prior to this week’s update, Lightroom + Photoshop worked great. I did nothing but accept the CC updates for each program. The results are HORRIBLE. It takes Lr minutes to open a collection. Only about have the time can I send a photo from Lr to PS. After I finally get a photo to move from Lr to Ps, the Ps edits do not show up in Lr. Not sure what when wrong but from my experience the upgrade was a bust.

I bought LR6 (perpetual license) disk via Amazon. The version is 6.0. The only update in ‘Help|Updates…’ right now (4/2017) is for ‘LightRoom CC (2015.9) / 6.9’.

Is the bug-fix that Scott mentioned available somewhere, because I doubt it wouldn be on the original disk.

This whole light room 6 in my mind is a scam to exploit client. nothing works. no one to talk to, if you go to chat room, they tell you to sign back on Monday because the specialist to help are not in. bull head!!!! I think the federal Govt needs to step in and investigate this hole none sense. Very mad , and verily mad.i bought this upgrade to merge photos but it does not work .Client need to know what to do if certain aspect of the program fail and what to do. Adobe must shape up.

Right on, Adobe LR6 should be recalled to fix the problems before marketing the application I spent over a day, tried to run the downloaded LR6 but I am getting back into the same loop, “AAM stopped working”. I wish I never purchased the DVD app from B&H. Adobe running the biggest scam with their LR6 app.

I purchased LR6 the first day it hit the store, and this is my first time delving into it other than the immediate five minute skip and jump at install. It seemed to be okay then, but now when I open it it immediately gives me a “Lightroom Has Stopped Working” error followed by “A problem has caused Lightroom to stop working” error. Windows searches for a solution for about 15 seconds and then simply tells me to close the program. No help menus or anything else is available in the background. I can’t get ANY access to LR. I am growing to be more and more pissed off as my attempts to solve this issue fail. I really need help.

LR CC is a true disaster . I recently upgrade from 5 to CC. Always crash always slow. I have to uninstall and start using version 5.

The latest update to Lightroom is a disaster. It’s extremely glitchy. It’s near to impossible to make pinpoint changes. What used to take 30 seconds now takes 20 minutes and lots of frustration. I wish I had never updated and wish I could go back to the pre-updated version, which was fantastic!

It’s a car crash. Sluggish, buggy, consumes tons of CPU. Tethering is hit and miss, with exit data not being read half the time. I’m considering buying Capture One and forgetting Lightroom altogether.

The Radial and Graduated Filters in LR6 which Ijust purchased DO NOT FUNCTION.The Help line does not respond_ a disgraceful service

Mine used to crash every time it was opened. Post “fix” it waits until I’m editing the second or third photo. Really hard to count on Adobe. I’m pissed at their continued lack of service and sharing general disdain with everyone possible. It looks like Adobe has gone the way of Comcast!

I’ve just moved to Lightroom CC running on OSX Yosemite. It has some really annoying issues.

One example is when using the Develop module to adjust a photo. Sometimes the photo in the develop module looks nothing like what it looks like in the library or when I export. Makes editing a bit hit and miss. It’s seems to be something to do with the noise reduction adjustments.

Also, LRCC2015 running on a 2015 MacBook Pro 15″ with additional graphics runs slow. Turning off support for accelerated graphics speeds everything up again.

Needs a bug fix very soon methinks.

Why even mention the ‘free’ aspect of a bug fix? Is there ever such a thing as bug fix the customer needs to pay for? I don’t understand the emphasis here, unless it’s an attempt to make people think Adobe is actually handling the many and serious LR CC/6 issues properly. Which it obviously is not.

Adobe has yet to join the conversation on the serious performance issues they’ve introduced, and as the entire code for CC/6 has been rewritten, it’s not likely that we’ll see a real ‘fix’ in the near future. Adobe has been so focused on expanding into gimicky mobile apps that it has lost its way. Message to Adobe – an iPad is not a serious tool for editing or creation. Tablets and smart phone have their uses, but there is a reason us pros have power machines for our real work.

I’ve actually just talked with the people at Phase One about the possibility of a special ‘Switch to Capture One’ promo period. C1’s file management isn’t as good as LRs, but at the moment it is a substantially faster app for doing what we need to do.

Adobe is at a critical point in LRs life cycle. We pros cannot afford to wait with baited breath for Adobe get off their asses and deal with a problem that impacts our ability to preform our jobs. Perhaps the only way to make Adobe sit up and pay attention is for a critical mass to stand up and walk out of this abusive relationship.

Lightroom is slower than LR 5,7 (which was never very fast to begin) and I have a load of bugs such as a blue screen where there should be a photo when going into crop mode…..
In general, lightroom has to get much better in terms of speed and performance. I installed CC and am using 5,7 for any important jobs and only relegating my HDR photos to CC (create the HDR and reverto LR 5,7 to do my editing on said file)

LR CC’s new features do not work on my 2009 iMac due to inadequate VRAM (the integrated graphics card has VRAM=256K; LR CC requires 1GB minimum). I guess I’ll have to use LR 5 until I need to replace my iMac, which continues to work well for most other uses/applications.

    • Joe 5 May, 2015 at 22:26 Reply

p.s. it would have been nice if upon my attempted installation of LR CC, the software would have scanned my system and informed me to UNCHECK the graphics card usage button, as my system had inadequate VRAM. Instead I tried numerous times to install LR CC, only to have it crash every time I attempted to make a change in the Develop module. I also spent a lot of time on hold and then on the phone with Adobe Support, before my problem was identified.

    My performance enhancement for all:

Since I now update the LR application software through the Creative Cloud app, I have unchecked the “Automatically check for updates” (as well as “Show splash screen during startup”) in the

Edit | Preferences | General tab.

Seems a bit faster (in lieu of working GPU on my computers), and I’m in and out of LR quite a bit with issues right now. 😉

I have to agree with Phil Shaw.

I decided to buy the update to Lightroom after hearing/seeing all the praise on this website. I put it on a newly installed desktop PC, updated my catalog and started to edit my latest photos.
Now, after a few days I wish I would not have done either of these things and instead would have installed LR 5 again.

There are ridiculous user interface problems in the localized versions.
TIFF files that come from external plugins (including Photoshop) keep reloading after each and every change, eventually completely reverting to the original TIFF.
There are problems with recognizing pressure values from older Wacom tablets and so on.

Adobe used to have a “Labs” section where they released beta versions for their products before the official release. I think this program is now called “Creative Cloud” and they charge people for it.

Anyway, for most of the aforementioned problems there are workarounds except for the abysmal performance compared to the previous version.

Great, they now have a setting for GPU acceleration, except it seems to decelerate the performance for most and cannot be enabled at all by the rest!
My PC has an i7 3.5 GHz CPU, 16 GB RAM and an GTX 770 with 3 GB VRAM. The computer was specifically built for (semi-)professional audio and image editing with the possibility of playing the occasional video game in highest details. All of this worked and works like a charm, except Lightroom feels like it’s running on a 2008 Atom-powered Netbook.

And the people at Adobe still have the guts to advertise the “Faster performance”, even though every serious test I read after my purchase confirmed, that compared to its predecessor LR6 needs up to twice as long for most tasks.

But hey, they have face recognition now, so you don’t have to quickly add the subjects’ names as tags to your photos anymore. No sir, now you are able to wait several minutes and let Lightroom guess if the wall ornament in the background is your uncle Tony or someone yet unknown…

    Yes, I am frustrated!

    • Rudi 6 May, 2015 at 10:41 Reply

Andreas, you are not alone. I’m frustrated, too. I own a new iMac 27″ with SSD, 32Mb Ram, 4Gb Graphics card and so on in addition to a MBP and on both LR CC is sooo stringy. And best all errors that I have had with LR 5 are still there.

For those of you who understand German you fill find a performance comparison of LR 5 and LR 6 CC where they found out that LR 6 has not half the performance of LR 5 in day to day tasks:

      Answer from Adobe still pending.

July 17 and it still crashes of you breathe too hard. I’m a programmer and I’d be embarrassed to release a crash machine like this. Last crash it destroyed my catalog and no repair works. Thanks, Seetheraman. What happened, are you guys just too fat and happy now?

    • Harald Geisler 8 May, 2015 at 10:34 Reply

If have the same problem concerning pictures from external plugins. The problem exists not only on TIFF but also on JPG files. The loss of information occures ervery time if a slide is moved while reloading the picture. All user work gets lost. In this manner is no efficient work with LR 6 possible. I am thinking to reinstall LR 5.7 because that works.

Same problem on a fairly new macpro, also going to re install a down rev. and wait for it to get fixed

where can I report lightroom bugs?
I spotted one in the export process, if I put accents in the file name, the export window closes…

This latest update is very minor. Lightroom CC is not finished code, hanging/crashing a whole lot, especially on a quit with a backup with an optimize. Speed increases few and far between, so this was/is a Class A marketing overhype. Faces is funky, but works (when not crashing). Adobe usually gets these things about 90% “finished” eventually, but this is a beta release so far.

  17. Paul C 5 May, 2015 at 13:03 Reply

I’ve had no problems at all with CC except trying to get it to recognize my video-card which should be ok…. I’ve done the usual updates to drivers etc. I was hoping this update might help, but no joy. However I LOVE the new LR and find it quite fast and problem free. The Photomerge is so good that it is hard to justify going into PS for almost anything. I’d love a speed-fix for the facial recognition which I soon learned how to turn off and probably will never use until it gets sorted. Other than that I would never go back to LR5. Even the Web-module was given a boost, which surprised us all as I can’t think of many who used it before! So keep the updates coming, Adobe.

At this rate we will soon be hearing about a minor “Photoshop Stream” at the massive KelbyOne extravaganza “Lightroom World” 😉

    • h 12 May, 2015 at 11:05 Reply

I see you turned Facial recognition OFF, in the past Facial recognition used to slow APERTURE down, perhaps people should turn Facial recognition off to see if it has any influence on lightrooms speed

You can search for like problems and add details to discussion chains about them at this link:

    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family

I’ve found a workaround for edited TIFF (via Silver Efex Pro 2 and other plugin round-tripping) causing redraws, flashes and loss of edit changes there. (It was to turn off saving edits to XMP files in the catalog preferences – short term, it will work for me until a fix).

LR CC has been a disaster, as far as I am concerned. It would not install (finally fixed by logging out of and then logging back into Creative Cloud) and now it takes forever, if it even does it all, to launch. The program is sluggish and seems to make my whole computer bog down. If I could, I’d go back to the previous version of LR.

  20. Pierre 5 May, 2015 at 09:12 Reply

    Hopefully yes.

However this bug fix update now makes my old trusty 2010 MBP when I activate the GPU support (like 20 crashes in 30 minutes…), when everything went smoothly before 🙁
