Video – Interview with Adobe's Tom Hogarty
Today I’ve got something a little different for you. Instead of listening to my voice for 5 minutes, you get to listen to Adobe’s Lightroom Product Manager Tom Hogarty (and my voice a little). Tom was in NAPP’s headquarters last month and I pulled him aside to talk about some emerging areas in Lightroom. Topics such as some of the pro DSLRs that shoot video and Lightroom’s camera profiles as well as the DNG editor came up. It’s pretty cool to get a chance like this and I think Tom’s got some good insights. He even tips Adobe’s hand just a bit about some future development. Hope you enjoy.
Matt,
Where is the subtitle that you was going to work on it? It’s been a months since your company has not invent that yet. You know its the FCC law!!!! I still want the subtitle, PLEASE……………………
Matt or anyone,
I don’t know is this is the correct place to ask this but its about HDR and the Lightroom (New Beta) plugin. If I select 5 photos and file/plugin extras/export to photomatix pro… where are the .tif files being stored at? I can’t find them on my computer anywhere and they have to be here. I want to delete them so as not to clutter my puter.

Ron- if you are just burning and deleting stuff once you finish a project, you might try creating a separate catalog for each job. Once you finish the job you can just delete the whole catalog in one easy step, instead of each folder indivdually in LR. I know Scott Kelby mentions this workflow in his book and on his blog as the way a couple of his photographer friends work (separate catalogs for each job anyway, not necessarily deleting them afterwards)
Another option if you want to keep just one catalog, is to nest the folders for a project in one master folder. This should allow you to remove all the sub-folders from LR with one step also. -Jeremy
matt,
is there a way to delete folders in LR 1 and or 2 that you have burned to disc and deleted from your computer after you burned em.
i burn the folder for each job that contains my raws,jpegs,retouched,ect..
and then delete them in exploere. but as u know when u launch LR they are still in the library. and would like to know if there is a faster way than going one by one and removing the folders that have missing files.
RON
Thanks, Ken. I will try that. Hope it works.
Hi Matt,
Good video however, I hoping there would some comments on the performance issues that are still prevalent within 2.2 especially on the Win XP platform such as the confirmed memory leak which hangs LR using the AB and gradient tools.
Any inclination about a resolution from Adobe?
Cheers!
@Don-
What version of Firefox are you running? 2.x, and to a lesser extent 3.0, can be extreme resource hogs. The more extensions you have, and tabs you have open, the worse it gets. I’ve seen cases, I work in IT, where it consumes up to 50% of the CPU. Try 3.1 beta 2 if you can, it seems to resolve most of these issues.

Thanks Tom, looks like you’ve put yourself in it now. I hope we can expect a DNG profile primer in the future. Great work.
Nice interview … I just posted the story on bokehnews:

Nice interview. Thanks for posting it.
Question about Local Adjustment Tools
I have a PC w/XP ProSP3, Lighrtoom 2.2,4 GB ram. When I run LR with Firefox and/or Thunderbird minimized, the adjustment brush at larger sizes only about 1/4 of the circle shows and as I increase the size less shows. I have to quit all programs and restart to get the full brush size to display. The brush still works but I can’t see all of the brush. This happened with LR 2.1 also. Is there a setting I need to change or is this a bug in LR?
Thanks,
Don
