Lightroom (and Camera Raw) 1.4 Update

Just wanted to let you know there’s a new Lightroom update out there. We’re up to 1.4. Here’s the low-down:
1) It’s mostly camera related, meaning the main update just adds support for some new cameras – no new features.
2) There’s also a couple of bug fixes included.
3) For Mac users there’s some legacy printer driver stuff included.

Anyway, it’s nothing earth shattering and, as I mentioned earlier, there’s no new features. But it’s always good to keep the software up to date. If Lightroom hasn’t prompted you already (it did for me when I launched it today) then click here to get the update and find out more.

I am having the same problem as some other Lightroom users….if I print from Lightroom I get very Light printouts. If I take the picture into Photoshop, the same picture prints out fine. I am using the printing protocol in Lightroom as prescribed but for some reason the final output is awful. I am using an Epson 3800 which is an amazing inkjet that gives me stellar results when using Photoshop.

Even though I get the same printer interface when inside the print module in Lightroom, I can’t get an output I can use. I have spent hours trying to tweak the settings in Lightroom (thinking it was something I was doing wrong) but at this point, I am just frustrated. I am using an iMac 24″, 2.6Ghz with my Epson 3800.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really want to use Lightroom’s printer module because otherwise, my workflow is severely hampered and I really want to use some of the nifty things that are available in the print module.

Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way,
    kenyon

The 1.4 update will mess up your thumbnails if you are an Olympus camera owner. I found I had the same problem as Berian who posted above. My thumbnails have a small duplicate photo in them in the upper left hand corner. Per http://www.Lightroomforums.net I found it was indiginous (spelling?) to the Olympus E series of cameras. Only solution I found was to peel back to 1.3. I did it by downloading the version 1.3.1. I would advise Olympus users to hold off for now on the 1.4 or try it and see if you get it. It happens to random images, not in all of them but in new and old.

    Scott,

Press T to toggle your Toolbar back on. Then press F to cycle through the screen modes to get the min/max/close buttons back. These are all interface modifications that have existed since Lightroom was introduced.

Please be careful under windows LR 1.4 is touching our RAW files and changes the timestamp of the file.
If you want that your RAW file are not toughed to NOT upgrade to 1.4.
    It is a confirmed BUG.

Just installed 1.4…can anyone tell me where the edit tool bar went (crop, spot removal, etc)? The one that sits directly below the image in the Develop module? Also missing the Windows minimize, maximize and exit buttons…program error or new “features”?

Holy crap, too late, now I wish I had held off. Lightroom keeps shutting down. How do I uninstall 1.4 without uninstalling Lightoom? Thanks, Linda

    just installed the new lightroom….
i’ve got an issue with some photographs, it seems to add a smaller version of the photo in the corner of that photo.

never had this issue with any other version.

    any ideas?

    thanks

Thanks for the update on the update. I’m not sure if you covered this but can you let me know if you can set up Lightroom on a dual monitor? I know I can do this in Bridge but I can’t figure out how or if it can be done in Lightroom.

    Many thanks,
    Laurel

    Hi Matt,
Thanks for the heads-up on the LR update. Just wanted to let you know that for folks using LR with MacOS 10.5 this update is huge. I print to an Epson 7600 and 4800. Since upgrading to 10.5 printing in LR has been impossible for me. CS3 printed fine but something between LR and the new OS didn’t click. An Epson rep confirmed there was an issue when I talked to him at Imaging USA. He said Adobe and Apple were meeting at MacWorld to resolve the issue. Looks like they did. I can now print accurately in LR. Hurray!!!

    Hi Matt

I have a printing issue that not even LR 1.4 solved. I’m printing to a Epson Stylus 1800 on a Mac v10.5.2 and my beautifully corrected images in LR ALWAYS print at least 2/3 of a stop darker then how they appear on screen. Now if I take that same image out of LR and print in through CS3….. PERFECT, print match’s dead on……..HELP! And yes I am mirroring print setting through each, paper, no color corrections etc….
