Why I Have A New Blog?
Hey everyone. I’ve had a few people notice that my website (mattk.com) recently went from just a portfolio site to a blog as well. Since I already run a blog over here, I thought I’d take a quick minute to write a little about why I did this.
Why a New Blog?
It’s actually pretty simple. I think because of the name of this site (LightroomKillerTips.com) that people who visit expect Lightroom tutorials, presets, tips, news, etc… I personally always feel a little weird when I write non-Lightroom stuff on that site because I know there’s a disconnect. But I realized I have lots of other stuff I want to write about. I work full time for NAPP and want to write about Photoshop. I’m a photographer and have lots of topics that I think would help people out, but they just don’t seem to fit on a Lightroom site. I’m the co-Editor of a lighting magazine called Light It and there’s always cool people/gear/things I come across from doing that. Plus, in my experience, when people follow some one on a blog/website/social media page, they typically like to know other things about that person. I know personally that I follow people in golf (because I’m interested in golf). And I like it when they post a little bit about themselves once in a while. We tend not to just follow content… we tend to follow the person too. So you’ll find all kinds of stuff on the new site, that just doesn’t make sense on a Lightroom website like this.
Why Is It Called “The Ski Report”?
Those of you that know Scott, know that he always needs a nickname for people. So he started calling me “ski” because, well, it was obviously shorter than saying my last name. I, of course, didn’t complain because before that my nickname was Matt Rockin’ the House-ski Kloskowski. So “ski” seemed like a step up. It ended up being pretty catchy (although the rockin the house-ski thing did surprisingly well). I’ll walk around conferences and seminars and hear people calling out “Ski!” all the time. Then a couple of years ago Scott called me when he was traveling and said “Gimmee the ski report”. I laughed and mentioned that had a cool ring to it, and he suggested I check to see if that URL was taken (which of course it is – by people that actually would like to ski). When I thought about starting my own site I realized it needed a name, so that’s what I went with. Hey, at least if nobody comes to the new blog, come winter time I should be really popular 🙂
Is Lightroom Killer Tips Going Away?
Nope. Not at all. I’ll still post a couple times a week. There’s typically not a lot of Lightroom news happening out there but when there is, or I have new presets or tutorials I’ll be sure to post ’em here too.
So anyway, I hope that gives you a little insight into what I’m doing there. And I hope you’ll go visit and check back a few times a week. I’ll most likely post on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s, but I’ve actually been posting something pretty much every day. And make sure you check out the “Story Behind the Photo” posts. They’ve been going over really well. Thanks! Hope to see you back soon 🙂
Hei Matt
Congratulations for your new blog. Nice stuff.
Just one comment: as you – apparently – are posting all you LR articles also on your other blog I don’t see why one still would want to pass by this one. Maybe think of better segregation between the two blogs?
Congrats on the new blog and totally agree with your reasons why to have another one, other than this one
I have upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and have added Lightroom 4. I keep reading about how great Camera Raw is now. What does it do better than Lightroom 4, if anything?
Absolutely nothing. The Develop module in Lightroom is the exact same thing as Camera Raw.
Hey Matt,
Im working with a new blogg/portfolio as well.
What did you use as template? I guess it is WordPress and the name of the template is? I like the design.
The portfolio showing the pictures is great too. Plugin name?
I’m using the themes from Elegantthemes.com
🙂
I’m new to the site, as I recently discovered Lightroom, and I already appreciate the tips and presets you’re putting up here. I’ll be here often. 🙂 Thanks!
Just wanted to know your thoughts on the Google Acquisition of Nik Software.
Hey Matt–i am a big fan/follower of you and the whole NAPP gang and really enjoy your writing, tips, tutorials, and just general outlook on life and all the above. 🙂 Just wondering, will you ever add an email delivery option?
Hi Deb,
There’s an email “Subscribe” button on the right hand side. Is that what you were talking about?
I don’t see any email subscribe button!
On the right side I see:
1) search box
2) ad
3) Categories
4) Kelby Media sites
5) ad
6)ad
7) Follow NAPP on G+
Where am i missing it?
Sorry Deb. I thought you were talking about my new blog site (mattk.com) since that’s the post you wrote this under. No email subscribe on this site. Sorry 🙂
OK, no prob. Will do so over at the Ski. 🙂
Hey Matt,
Why don’t you tell us about the Camera’s , Lenses and equipment you use over on The Ski Report. I think it’s cool to see what others use ! See ya in Oct. at the Photo Walk !
Your new blog is a great idea, but I sincerely hope that you will find the time to keep up to speed with lightroomkillertips.com. Your tips have been instrumental for my full adoption of Lightroom. LR helps my photography efforts. Please, come back with more and more frequent tips.
Thank you.
Hi Matt, your personal SKI Report has become one of my favorite photo blogs to check out every day. Great stuff and usefull information 🙂 Thumbs up from Denmark
Hi Matt,
I really enjoy your new site. You’ve got some good stuff over there and I check it every day. Thanks for making it and posting as often as you do.
