  1. LR3 – any practical solutions to the new edition’s slowness? Added features are excellent (going from 2.7 to 3; sharpening and noise reduction in particular) …but the price paid in operational slowness is, well… growing painful. Within the Develop module, simply going to the next image file seems to now require twice as much time before allowing image-work (7-10 seconds, what used to be 3-4)
Is there any way to “flush” out the memory that might help?

    • Use the lens correction panel last! It slows down if you use that first and then go make local adjustments. I usually use the basic panel and the curves then do my local adjustments then do the rest and now LR flies.

  2. Hi Matt and thanks for these tips !
About shortcuts, I have an big concern with LR3 : my favorite shortcut seems to have disapeared ! I used the “><" key A LOT in the development module to switch between the original and the modified images. It doesn't seem to work anymore. Can you confirm this ? Thanks again for your blog and video tutorials, I'm a big fan.

    • In the print module, look to the left and at the bottom. You will see Page Setup button. Hit that. It will open a dialog box with your printer — choose your size there

    • My Epson 3800 does not list 13 X 19 inches, however it does list
329mm X 483mm, which is the same size

  4. I agree Ed. I regret the $100 upgrade. It is much slower even though I have a pretty beefed up pc.

  5. I’ve gone back to LR 2.7, as Ed said great tools but for me LR3 just isn’t fast enough.

  6. I agree! LR3 is painfully slow when editing photos. I love the new features too, but I prefer a faster performance.

  7. Hi Matt!
Did you do anything on LR3 Lens Corrections feature? Also, I hear that people can create their own profiles (lens) and share them. Do you know where I would go to see what lens profiles people have personally created and shared? I would like a lens profile for a Nikon AF-s 17-35mm F/2.8 lens.

  8. Scott,

You have recommended Turning Gate’s new web engine. I use their Client Response module but all my virtual copies show up when I try to determine WHICH ONE of all those virtual copies the client prefers.

I would love to automate the process. Is there a way to tell Lightroom to give the virtual copies their own filename…that doesn’t include a – dash that’s illegal in Unix?

    Thanks!

  9. I just installed Lightroom 3. The library module indicates the same number of images I had in Lightroom 2.7, but my hierarchical file structure did not migrate. Any ideas?

  11. Help, please…
Everytime i import pictures from an CF card or any device, they always arrive at Lightroom with a 5 star rating.
The problem is that i can’t find a way to disable this.
Does anybody now how to solve this?
