  • I hope X-Rite’s seminar is much better than the Manfrotto and Datacolor/Sypder webinar entitled, “Monitor Calibration Finally Explained” from June 16.

    - It was chocked full of misinformation (only shoot in JPEG and sRGB, return monitor settings to 50% before calibration [even though software says to return to default])
    - They avoided questions (Your products vs. X-Rite products, working with off-site clients who cannot calibrate monitors).
    - Typos (Q: What Kelvin should be used: 5500 or 6500. A: daylight 5500. This is after the audio portion said D65 (6500). Their response: Typo, sorry)

In the end, it boiled down to be a webinar on Datacolor’s different versions of products, rather than actual monitor calibration. As a satisfied (thus far) Datacolor Spyder3Elite owner, I was disappointed in the webinar.

    • I watched X-rite webinar on Sep 14th and it was really good. Don’t don’t just talk about the product. They focus more on the HOW. You would rarely find a good free webinar. Most of them just talk about their products. You can find previous webinar from X-rite here: http://www.xritephoto.com/ph_learning.aspx?action=webinarsarchive . Watch them and see if you want to attend their coming webinar or not.

    • You can find their past webinar here: http://www.xritephoto.com/ph_learning.aspx?action=webinarsarchive
Watch and see for yourself if it’s worth attending their next one. But the last one that I attended on Sept 14 was really good, full of information. Help me a lot in my workflow also.

    • I agree. Too many webinars done are merely to promote a companies product. A scheme to sell their product and very litte if any more.

  • Cheers for the ‘heads up’ re the X-Rite Webinar Matt; Calendar is synced and I’m ready :)

    Thanks

  • I’ll be checking out the webinar as well.

  • Thanks for the heads up on Paddy, Matt. much appreciated!

  • What are my options on OSX for paddy type programs??? RPGkeys?

  • That PADDY is too cool. I can’t wait to really dig into it. If it works the way I think it will, what a better way to work.

    • I insta-bought the beringer MIDI and start playing around with the PADDY tool.
I love it, and it brings the workflow to a whole other level!

  • Knobroom is kinda like paddy, but mutliplatform ;-)

  • Nice. Greetings from the Speedy DNS

  • Dorfl here, key contact for the above mentioned Paddy. Yes, I know, name sounds like I was drunk when I came up with it (true), and it’s only Windows (I am not a professional photographer, so I have to run LR on the family machine).

But we have a lot of fun doing this, and now we have support for midi controllers. Nothing like seeing a physical fader move on a Midi controller when you move a slider in LR. Plus Macros, relative presets, adjustment brush presets, keyboard mapping etc for free, so If you are running windows have a look and tell us what you think. It’s free (because I am stupid, apparently).

Also, if you don’t have windows and are interested in Midi control, check out knobroom. good stuff, cross platform!

PS: It’s a hobby. If you need professional support, please get a professional solution, there is no guarantee of support etc for Paddy

  • Hello. I’m using Lightroom 3 for a couple of months and i’m very pleased with it. But my only disappointment is that the software converts the raw files from the camera colour space tot Adobe RGB (i think) and in some cases it’s a big difference between what he does and what you see on the screen of the camera or what can be seen on the same image shooted Jpeg (when shooting raw+jpeg). Is there any posibility for LR to leave the images as they are ? 10x a LOT.

  • Has anyone played around with Paddy for Lightroom and willing to share some of their settings? Particularly the numeric keypad and the mouse settings.

BTW, the settings files are in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Paddy (Windows 7), if you want to share the files themselves.

    Thank you.
