Hey Matt,

Love the site, the presets are really cool!

I'm shooting with a D300 and tried shooting RAW+JPG one day, but when I imported my images into Lightroom it only showed one thumbnail per image and when I put my curser over it it said DSC_1234 Raw + Jpg. I tried to unstack them so I could have them side by side, but nothing has worked, and i can't seem to find anyone who has an answer to the issue.

I did not convert the files to DNG on import.

thanks,
NT

Hi Matt,

Love the info. I see others are asking the same question about workflow and other tools.

My question:

Say you have the following tools:

Lightroom
Photoshop
NIK Software : Define and Sharpener
onOne Software : Phototools 2, PhotoFrame 4 and Focuspoint

I have taken you training course on Kelby Training for Lightroom 2 and learned some killer stuff, but as I increase my skills I see there are other tools to help with post.

Watched your training course on onOne Plugins.

Given the list above, how does your workflow change from LR to LR + tools?

Start with Lightroom, do your WB and Exposure adjustments. This is where I need the advice. How much more will you do in Lightroom given the other tools. Do you still do color correction and or other adjustments in LR or do you move into other plugins for the next steps in adjustments like using Phototools 2 to do color corrections?

In what order would you suggest using each tool? Trying to make sense how it all comes together in a start to finish process.

Thanks for any advice.

Hey Matt, et al.
I am also using a Wacom, though mine is generation 3. I love using it and simply can't imagine working without it. You mentioned that the pressure sensitivity worked in LR. How can you tell that, or better still, how do you set that up or toggle it off?
Thanks for your help
(also, I am using PC)
Cheers

Hi Matt. Is there any way to make Lightroom show the number of keywords in a folder or a catalog or a selection (like Bridge)? So if I'm shooting a team over a season I can quickly see how many shots I have of the goalie or the pitcher or if I have shots of each player. Knowing that I have a ton of photos of a player or a place or whatever in my entire catalog isn't particularly helpful. Thanks so much!

Matt what find of mac are you using with your tablet? I have one of the Uni-body mbp and every tablet I have installed has replaced the touch pad driver so it just stops working. Does any one have a tablet that works with their Uni-body out there?

@J. Pobiak - I've wanted a good solution for that too. Cerious software makes a package for windows called thumbsplus that can do it, but I've never seen anything for mac.

This is a very generic question but I am hoping that someone can answer me.
I am an underwater photographer who has thousands of images. I just started into underwater photography about 2.5 years ago. I have so many images and copies on two computers and a third separate hard drive. In the past I had worked on photos and renamed the same image 3-4 times using different methods. They have ended up in separate folders. Is there any way to pull up all these images in one place (even though they are in separate folders) so I can delete some of them and thin out the ones I need to keep? I might have 6 versions of the same spotted eagle ray in four different folders!.

@john - I was curious about the same thing. Would Lightroom be able to re-synch with my NEF's even though I had edited a converted DNG?

I tested it and was happy to find out that, yes, Lightroom is able to do this. It will ask you, "this file has a different name, is it really the same?" and if you say yes, it will accept the new filename. I was happy that all the edits are applied to the "new" image. I didn't try it with the "wrong" file, but I'm guessing it would apply all those edits to it as well. Good question!

@sarah - You will see a little ? in the preview image of the picture that is missing and also on the folder that Lightroom can't find. Click either, browse to the correct location and select. I prefer locating the entire folder in the folder viewer, since you don't have to locate the image you started with, but it works either way if you moved a whole folder.

Going forward, you can use this method to re-locate, or you can use Lightroom's interface to move things. However, be advised that Lightroom doesn't "know" about a hard drive or volume until it either creates a folder there or imports a picture from that location.

Ditto for any workflow on the Nik software in Lightroom. I am using Nik software and it's great, but there a few fiddly things that I'm sure could be streamlined but can't find anything specific to Lightroom on the web.
